Competition weekend
This weekend I attended a weightlifting competition in Hastings.
The common questions I get are:
What did you bench?
And, did you win?
Funnily, neither happened.
But I did come away with some good insights.
Competition is never about the other competitors. You’re competing against yourself, your own fears, emotions and ego. Can you calm your mind and do better than you did before?
The end result of the competition was that I came last, but I participated.
I was thinking to myself — what is the point of me even being here?
The person looking after me during the competition said to me: every single person at the competition makes the competition.
If everyone thought they weren’t going to win and didn’t turn up, then we wouldn’t have a competition.
Stay focused and talk soon,
Shivan
