What to say when there is 'no change'
Kia Ora Friend,
For all you optometrists out there, imagine. You've just completed the best eye exam of your lifetime.
"Good news, there has been no change in your prescription"
But is it okay to leave it there? Maybe. But here are some suggestions to better serve your patients.

Spare Pair
You don't wait until you have had an vehicle accident to start wearing your seat belt.
If your patient has only one pair of glasses, consider the possibility if it breaks. Suggest they make this the spare pair and get a new one to take its place.
New Pair
Even though the prescription is stable, scratches on the lens can ruin the visual performance of the glasses.
Also, a worn out frame is prone to breaking anytime.
A new pair will easily remedy this.
UV Protection
Knowing your patient is walking around with clear vision is good; knowing they are protected against ultraviolet light is even better.
This is where suggestion of prescription sunglasses satisfies clear vision as well as protection against cancer/cataract causing UV light.
Contact Lenses
Contacts and glasses wear don't have to be mutually exclusive. You can wear glasses most of the time and still use contacts here and there.
Contacts can provide great freedom for those who are active.
Checks for contacts are more routine, so the patient will see you more often.
Eye Health
Talk about eye health.
The public perception is that you only see the optometrist if you wear glasses or have some vision problem.
Routine eye exams are important. Eye diseases like glaucoma almost have no symptoms until its too late. So, please urge routine eye examinations for all.
Our role is the advise patients with their vision and eye health.
Did you find this useful? If you did, please forward this on to family and friends so they can find it useful too.
Thanks for reading and all the best for the week ahead.
Mā te wā,
