Kia Ora Friend,

It's a lovely long weekend here in Canterbury anniversary day falling on the Friday with amazing weather.

In this newsletter I want to explore my time at university. My final year project.

It involved using optokinetic nystagmus to measure visual acuity. I want to recreate this project using Python.

What is Optokinetic Nystagmus?

This is an involuntary eye movement, characterised by a slow movement in one direction followed by a quick movement in the opposite direction.

The most common place to see it is when you are in a car (as a passenger), if you look towards a fence or telephone poles along the road, you will be displaying this eye movement.

What is Visual Acuity?

This is a measure of how well someone can see detail, usually from a far.

The Code

The code can be found on github.

I have written a blog post which can be found below.

Thanks for reading and all the best for the week ahead.

Mā te wā,

Shivan :)
