Reinvent yourself 🦋
Hey Friend,
Reinvention beats stagnation. Reinvent yourself by trying something new.
I'm facing stagnation in my career. How I'm trying reinvent myself is by embarking on a new job working as a Low Vision Optometrist for the Christchurch District Health Board.
Low vision is a speciality of optometry that helps rehabilitate individuals with poor eyesight, which ordinary prescription glasses cannot make better. These individuals generally have sight-deteriorating conditions like macular degeneration and glaucoma.
Low vision faces its own challenges and this is far different to what I would see in private practice. In the future, I will provide some interesting content about my experiences in this area of optometry.
This was mentioned in my previous newsletter and some people asked if I left my former roll... I want to clarify that this is only a casual role, working only once a fortnight.
Speaking of reinvention, I switched email newsletter providers. I am now using Revue.
Please let me know what you think and have an awesome week! Also, could you please share this out to you family and friends if you found this interesting. Thanks!
Shivan :)

Once you're wired for distraction, you crave it.
Cal Newport, Deep Work
Newport encourages to seek Deep Work. This is work that is high-level requiring focus and skill. Distraction is the enemy of this state.
Distraction is difficult to avoid thanks to all the information possible at the tips of our fingers. Distraction also drives a strong dopamine response leaving us to crave more, repeating the action of remaining distracted and not doing deep, focused work.
I make strong attempts to reduce distraction by putting my phone on aeroplane mode and installing applications to track my computer usage to keep me accountable.
What do you do to keep away from distraction?
