Linux and Its flavours
I'm using Ubuntu, which is one of the most popular distribution of Linux out there. It is both easy to use and has a gigantic community. If you run into any issues, then because so many people are using it, you can web search your way out of the problem.

I want to get better at programming. I'm also a fan of being productive.
Linux forces me to use the command line or terminal. And using a tiling window manager sets up a nice productive space on my computer.
Some simple commands to get you started
The terminal can be daunting to use at first. I was so used to clicking on buttons and double clicking folders.
Here is a list of commands that I use most common:
cd <file> is a way of navigating through the file system.
cd alone will get you to the home directory.
cd .. will get you back to the previous directory.
mkdir makes a directory in a location.
pwd prints the current directory.
