How did the Lockdowns affect you?
I polled my Instagram followers on how they found the lockdown. For the majority, it wasn’t so bad. Of course, we can’t forget the individuals who had a tough time also
For the most part, this post will be anecdotal and based on personal experience.
There is no doubt that the lockdowns had a big impact on people and society.
Schools, businesses and whole systems had to adapt.
What do I think worked well for people?
Lockdowns were a major disruption to normal daily living. We shift away from habit and existentialisms we would often brush off become more apparent. So much so, we deal with them.
Am I in the right career? Is life going in the direction I want to?
If not, we make the change. We have the time and opportunity to change.
What do I think didn’t work so well?
I really didn’t think about this. A friend brought this up. For any major event like this, always the vulnerable individuals in society suffer.
One example is those who are isolated become even more isolated with lockdowns.
Remote learning doesn’t work well for some children who require engagement, but this became the only alternative to education.
Some of these problems do cause long-term issues that trickle down in society.
I wonder what you all think? Did I miss anything? Feel free to leave a comment.
Stay focused and talk soon,
Shivan

Gaining confidence with database migrations
I made this video to showcase a project that helped me gain a little more confidence in writing raw SQL. In future, I want to make
Here is how the video performed on YouTube in the first 24 hours. For me, 180 views are surprisingly high. I think the title might be a bit miss leading, “Become Confident with Database Migrations”. (I know we shouldn’t get into the analytics too much!)
Environment variables gotcha!
Here is an environment variable gotcha that we experienced.
Here is me creating the thumbnails. Usually, I take a photo and apply some editing. But I took a still from that video. Pretty embarrassing when watching it over. I thought you might have a laugh.
Git and GitHub for personal projects
I think personal projects are the best way to get better at programming, but you need a way to share that code. I made this video as a simple guide to git and Github.
